Gyaneshwari Yadav Sets National Record, Wins Double Medal
Bhubaneswar: India’s rising weightlifting star Gyaneshwari Yadav delivered a breakthrough performance at the Asian Weightlifting Championships 2026, clinching two medals and setting a new national record.
Competing in the women’s 53 kg category, Yadav lifted 88 kg in snatch, surpassing her previous best and establishing a national benchmark.
The lift earned her a silver medal in snatch. She followed it up with a 106 kg clean & jerk, bringing her total to 194 kg, which secured her the overall bronze medal.
Her consistency and composure under pressure stood out, as she came close to her personal best of 107 kg in clean & jerk.
With her body weight at 51.4 kg, experts believe she is on track to cross the 200 kg total mark in upcoming competitions.
Yadav’s achievement highlights India’s growing depth in women’s weightlifting. She outperformed fellow Indian lifter Koyel Bar (188 kg), thanks to her superior snatch technique.
The performance also underscores India’s potential in the newly introduced 53 kg division, with Yadav emerging as a strong contender for future international success.
