CM Majhi Hails CUO’s New Centre for Classical Pali
Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has congratulated the Central University of Odisha (CUO) for receiving approval to establish a Centre of Excellence for Studies in Classical Pali.
Calling it a proud moment for the state, Majhi emphasised that the initiative will help preserve India’s rich linguistic heritage.
The centre will focus on research, preservation, and promotion of Pali — a language deeply connected to India’s intellectual, spiritual, and cultural traditions.
This development is part of a nationwide initiative by the Ministry of Education’s Department of Higher Education (Language Division), which approved five Centres of Excellence for Classical Languages on October 1, 2026.
Alongside CUO’s Pali centre, approvals were granted to Tezpur University (Classical Assamese), Visva-Bharati University (Classical Bengali), Deccan College in Pune (Classical Marathi), and Central University of Gujarat (Classical Prakrit).
The centres aim to strengthen academic research, digitisation, preservation, and dissemination of India’s classical linguistic heritage, ensuring that future generations remain connected to these timeless traditions.
