Puri–Koraput Express Set to Transform Odisha Rail Travel

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has announced the introduction of a new Puri–Koraput Express train, approved by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.

The tri‑weekly service is expected to significantly improve connectivity across eastern, western, and southern Odisha.

The train will run three times a week in each direction, with Train No. 18407 departing Puri on Monday, Thursday, and Saturday, and Train No. 18408 leaving Koraput on Tuesday, Friday, and Sunday.

Covering 19 stoppages, including Bhubaneswar, Dhenkanal, Angul, Sambalpur, Balangir, Titlagarh, Rayagada, and Damanjodi, the service is designed to benefit pilgrims, tourists, and local communities.

The Chief Minister highlighted that the new train will not only strengthen Odisha’s rail infrastructure but also boost religious tourism to Puri’s Jagannath Temple and support economic growth in southern and western districts.
