Sambalpur Warriors Edge Past Kataka Panthers in Thrilling Odisha T20 League Opener

The Bharat Masala Odisha T20 League – CM Trophy began with high drama at Barabati Stadium as Sambalpur Warriors defeated Kataka Panthers by 9 runs.

Skipper Gaurav Choudhary stole the show with a blistering 88 off 46 balls, smashing nine boundaries and six sixes.

His 135‑run opening stand with Shantanu Mishra (60 off 40) set the tone for the Warriors, who posted 193/8 despite a late collapse.

In reply, the Panthers faltered early, losing four wickets in the powerplay.

A spirited fightback from MG Gopal and Kartik Biswal (56 off 28) revived hopes, but Biswal’s dismissal proved decisive. The Panthers finished at 184/9, falling short of the target.

Choudhary was named Player of the Match, receiving the award from Bharat Masala Chairman Surendra Natha Panda.

Reflecting on the win, he credited the opening partnership and said the victory boosts team confidence for the tournament ahead.
