Kataka police have arrested Sujit Kumar Raula, Senior Superintendent of Choudwar Circle Jail, in connection with an alleged forgery and record‑tampering case.
The arrest follows the sensational escape of two murder accused, Madhukant Rana and Raja Sahani, from Choudwar Jail on October 2, 2025.
Raula’s anticipatory bail plea was rejected by the Orissa High Court on August 29, 2026, after the court withdrew his interim protection.
The case stems from a complaint filed by former jailor Santoshini Dash, who accused Raula of manipulating prison records, forging her signature, and tampering with gate‑entry registers to conceal his absence during the jailbreak.
Raula has denied the allegations, counter‑accusing Dash of dereliction of duty by allowing inmates out of their cells without his permission.
Following the jailbreak, two warders were suspended, and Dash was transferred to Kantabanji Sub‑Jail in Balangir district.
