Puri Jagannath Temple to Launch Dhadi Darshan System Before New Year
Puri: In a major step towards improving crowd management at the revered Puri Jagannath Temple, the Odisha Government is preparing to introduce the much-awaited Dhadi Darshan system before the New Year season.
The initiative aims to streamline the flow of devotees and ensure a smoother darshan experience at one of India’s busiest pilgrimage centres.
Based on information published by Pragativadi, the system is expected to become operational after the Kartik month and ahead of the year-end rush.
Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan said the state government is committed to making darshan more convenient for devotees while effectively managing large crowds inside the temple premises.
Under the proposed arrangement, eight specially designed ramps will be installed between the Garuda Stambha and Bahara Katha areas.
The system is expected to facilitate darshan for nearly 10,000 devotees per hour, significantly enhancing crowd movement and reducing congestion during peak periods.
The project incorporates a collapsible bridge-style structure developed with technical support from IIT Bhubaneswar.
The mechanism can be opened during darshan hours and folded or removed during temple rituals to ensure that traditional religious practices remain unaffected.
Before implementation, the proposal will undergo final review by the Chhatisha Nijog and the Shree Jagannath Temple Managing Committee. Their approval is expected to pave the way for the system’s formal rollout.
The move is anticipated to benefit thousands of pilgrims visiting Puri during festivals and holiday seasons, making temple visits safer, more organised, and more efficient.
