Odisha Weather Alert: Bay of Bengal System Intensifies

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather alert as a well‑marked low‑pressure area has formed over the east-central and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal.

The system is expected to intensify into a depression within 24 hours and further strengthen into a deep depression the following day.

According to forecasts, the system will move west‑northwestward and is likely to approach the north Andhra Pradesh–south Odisha coasts around September 23.

Heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds is predicted across coastal Odisha districts.

Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea due to rough conditions.

Authorities are monitoring the situation closely, with disaster management teams on standby.

Residents in vulnerable areas have been urged to remain alert and follow official advisories.
