Odisha Govt Suspends 3 Engineers Over Bargarh Canal Project
Bhubaneswar, June 9: The Odisha Water Resources Department has suspended three engineers over alleged misconduct in a canal project in Bargarh.
The officials—Superintending Engineer Madan Mohan Sethy, Assistant Executive Engineer Raj Kumar Mishra, and Assistant Engineer Ranjan Patel—were found responsible for irregularities in the construction of a box conduit over the Bargarh distributary.
The suspension order was issued under Sub‑Rule (1) of Rule‑12 of the Odisha Civil Services (Classification, Control & Appeal) Rules, 1962.
As per the directive, Sethy will remain headquartered at the Engineer‑in‑Chief’s office in Bhubaneswar, while Mishra and Patel will report to the Chief Engineer and Basin Manager, Mahanadi Basin, Burla.
The engineers are prohibited from leaving their headquarters without prior approval.
They will receive subsistence allowances in line with Rule‑90 of the Odisha Service Code.
The move underscores the state government’s emphasis on accountability and transparency in public works, sending a strong message against negligence in infrastructure projects.
