Chameli Ojha Faces No-Confidence Vote Amid Court Scrutiny
Kendrapara (Odisha): A no-confidence motion against Tikhiri Panchayat Sarpanch Chameli Ojha is being voted on today at the Panchayat office, following a notice issued by the Kendrapara Sub-Collector.
Out of 22 ward members, 21 signed the proposal on July 23, which was verified on July 27 before the voting date was fixed.
The motion comes amid controversy after police detained Ojha and her brother at Mahakalapada block premises on June 11, sparking tensions among members.
The Odisha High Court has directed that the voting be conducted but ordered that the results must not be announced without prior permission.
During hearings, the opposition submitted an affidavit validating the proposal, and the court has reserved its judgment.
This development has drawn attention to grassroots governance in Kendrapara, highlighting the growing friction between elected representatives and administrative oversight.
