Odisha Pushes Horticulture Revolution to Lift Farmer Incomes
Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has launched a renewed push to strengthen horticulture as a driver of farmer prosperity and nutritional security.
Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo directed horticulture officers to step out of their offices and engage directly with farmers, ensuring schemes are implemented effectively and climate‑resilient practices are adopted.
Officers will now submit monthly field‑visit reports, with strict monitoring to guarantee that government benefits reach intended beneficiaries.
The state is prioritising oil palm cultivation to address edible oil shortages, while also focusing on high‑value crops, floriculture, and export‑quality produce.
Singh Deo emphasised modern farming techniques, advanced technology, and stronger post‑harvest management to improve farmer‑to‑consumer linkages.
Training insights must be applied in the field to maximise impact.
In a significant step, the Directorate of Horticulture signed an MoU with Khety Agro Pvt. Ltd. to accelerate climate‑resilient agriculture and modernise farming practices.
