Odisha Accelerates Power Grid Expansion to Meet 2030 Industrial Goals
Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has intensified efforts to strengthen its electricity transmission network, adding 15 new grid substations in the past two years and laying nearly 789 circuit km of transmission lines.
With 210 substations now operational, the state is pushing toward its 2030 target of delivering reliable power to households and industries.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, reviewing the progress with senior officials, highlighted the strategic importance of the 765 kV ring system.
Two substations at Angul and Sundargarh are already functional, while Gopalpur and Paradip are under construction.
Plans are underway for three more at Kolabira, Duburi, and Betakholi.
Odisha is also expanding its 400 kV network, with five substations operational, four under construction, and nine more planned.
This infrastructure push is aligned with the state’s industrial roadmap, which anticipates 590 projects by 2030‑31.
To meet rising demand, the government has outlined power projects worth ₹16,000 crore.
Deputy CM Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo and OPTCL CMD Bhaskar Jyoti Sharma joined the review, underscoring the focus on modernisation and future‑ready transmission systems.
The expansion is expected to eliminate shortages and ensure uninterrupted supply for both households and industries.
