U‑14 Rugby Kicks Off at SGFI Championship in Bhubaneswar
Bhubaneswar, April 9: The 69th National School Games Federation of India (SGFI) Championship 2025–26 witnessed an energetic start to its Under‑14 boys’ and girls’ rugby competitions at the iconic Kalinga Stadium.
More than 300 young athletes from 14 states are participating, showcasing the sport’s growing popularity among schoolchildren.
The opening ceremony was graced by Dr N. Thirumala Naik, Commissioner‑cum‑Secretary of the School and Mass Education Department, who encouraged the athletes to embrace discipline, dedication, and sportsmanship.
He emphasised that such events are vital for nurturing grassroots talent and building India’s sporting future.
Other dignitaries present included Birendra Korkora, Director of Secondary Education, and Jyoti Prasad Parida, Assistant Director (P.E.T.), who praised Odisha’s role in hosting national‑level competitions and extended best wishes to the participants.
The SGFI Championship continues to serve as a national platform for identifying young talent, while Odisha strengthens its reputation as a hub for sports development with Kalinga Stadium at the forefront.
