Bhubaneswar Showcases Vision of Future Cities Through Sudarsan Pattnaik’s Sand Art
Bhubaneswar: Internationally acclaimed sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik has crafted a striking sand sculpture that captures Odisha’s journey from a rich cultural legacy to a modern urban future during the 19th Urban Mobility India (UMI) Conference & Exhibition and the 2nd National Urban Conclave (NUC) 2026 in Bhubaneswar.
The artwork, themed “Legacy in Motion, Cities in Transition,” reflects the state’s vision of harmonising heritage preservation with sustainable urban growth.
Through an intricate blend of Odisha’s iconic temple architecture, the Konark Wheel, and a futuristic city skyline, the sculpture symbolises the seamless connection between tradition and progress.
The installation serves as a powerful visual representation of Odisha’s aspirations for smart, connected, and citizen-centric cities while reinforcing the importance of protecting cultural identity amid rapid urbanisation.
Dignitaries including Tokhan Sahu and Dr Krushna Chandra Mahapatra visited the sand art exhibit and appreciated its creative portrayal of the state’s developmental journey.
Featuring messages such as OdishaOnTheMove, UMI2026, and NUC2026, the artwork welcomed delegates from across the country attending the prestigious urban development events.
The UMI Conference and National Urban Conclave bring together policymakers, urban planners, mobility experts, and other stakeholders to discuss innovative solutions for sustainable, inclusive, and resilient urban development.
Against this backdrop, Pattnaik’s creation stands as a symbolic reminder that the cities of tomorrow can prosper while remaining rooted in their cultural heritage.
