Odisha Govt Cancels Officials’ Holidays, Intensifies Cyclone Preparedness Measures

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has stepped up its disaster preparedness measures in anticipation of a potential cyclonic storm developing over the Bay of Bengal.

A high-level review meeting was held at Lok Seva Bhawan to assess the evolving weather situation and ensure readiness across the state.

According to weather forecasts, a low-pressure area has formed over the east-central Bay of Bengal and is expected to intensify further.

Forecast models indicate that the system may strengthen into a depression and subsequently a deep depression, bringing heavy rainfall and strong winds to several parts of Odisha.

In view of the emerging threat, the state government has cancelled all leaves of officials and directed them to remain at their respective headquarters.

District administrations have been instructed to maintain round-the-clock vigilance and ensure prompt response to any emergency situation.

Authorities have activated cyclone shelters and directed local administrations to stock essential commodities, including food, drinking water and medicines.

Evacuation plans have also been kept ready for vulnerable areas that may face severe weather conditions.

Fishermen have been advised to return from the sea and avoid venturing into deep waters until further notice.

The government has also ensured adequate cattle feed supplies and placed veterinary teams on standby to address livestock-related emergencies.

Weather warnings have been issued for multiple districts, with heavy to very heavy rainfall expected in several regions.

Officials are closely monitoring the situation as the precise path and landfall location of the system remain uncertain.

Forecast models, however, suggest a possible impact along the eastern coastline.

Revenue Minister Suresh Pujari said the state’s priority is to ensure zero casualties and minimise damage through timely preparedness and coordinated response mechanisms.

The Odisha government has urged citizens to follow official advisories, remain alert and avoid unnecessary travel during adverse weather conditions.
