SSU Marks Heritage Day with Beach Clean-Up at Konark
Konark/ Ranchi, April 23: On the occasion of World Heritage Day, the Rover and Ranger Unit of Sri Sri University, Cuttack, Odisha under the Odisha State Bharat Scouts and Guides, in collaboration with Project Point and the Eco Club of Sri Sri University, organized a one-day Heritage and Eco Awareness Programme at Konark.
The programme commenced with a cleanliness drive at Chandrabhaga Beach, where participating students collected nearly 50 kilograms of single-use plastic waste. The waste was subsequently disposed of responsibly in designated municipal bins. The initiative aimed to promote environmental consciousness and highlight the urgent need to reduce plastic pollution in coastal areas.
As part of the awareness campaign, students also interacted with local shopkeepers, sensitizing them to the harmful environmental impact of plastic bags and encouraging the adoption of sustainable alternatives such as cloth and paper bags. Carrying forward the message, the participants undertook a short trek along the beach with the slogan “Clean Beach, Green Beach,” spreading awareness about eco-friendly living among locals and visitors alike.

The organisers expressed their gratitude to Shri Sangram Keshari Samantaray, Chairperson of Project Point and Shri Ramakrishna Mohanty, Headmaster, along with officials of Project Point, including Mr. Bikaram Samantray, for their warm reception and guidance throughout the programme.
In the latter half of the day, the team visited PM SHREE Government SSD School in Konark, where a cultural exchange programme was held with the students. The day concluded with a visit to the iconic Konark Sun Temple, reinforcing the significance of preserving cultural heritage alongside environmental sustainability.
