Suspended IIC Sujit Das Appears Before Crime Branch Over Sexual Harassment Allegations

Bhubaneswar: Suspended Inspector‑in‑Charge (IIC) of Sarankul police station, Sujit Das, appeared before the Crime Branch’s Crime Against Women (CAW) wing in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday in connection with allegations of sexual harassment.

A married woman had lodged a complaint accusing Das of exploiting her vulnerable situation when she sought police protection against harassment by villagers.

Following the complaint, Das was suspended for misconduct and dereliction of duty.

The Orissa High Court has stayed his arrest but directed him to cooperate fully with the ongoing investigation.

On June 18, Das was transferred to Nayagarh district police headquarters and placed under the disciplinary control of the IG (Central Range), Cuttack.

The Crime Branch continues to probe the matter under the supervision of the Director General of Police (DGP).
