Fresh Border Dispute Flares as Odisha and AP Police Confront Each Other in Kotia

Kotia, Koraput: Fresh tension gripped the disputed Kotia border region in Odisha’s Koraput district after police personnel from Odisha and Andhra Pradesh reportedly came face-to-face following the alleged removal of barricades installed by Odisha Police at a border checkpost.

According to reports, the incident occurred at Neridibalsa village, where Odisha Police had erected barricades to maintain law and order amid growing concerns over Andhra Pradesh’s election-related activities in the contested border area.

The situation escalated when Andhra Pradesh Police personnel allegedly dismantled the barricades, leading to a confrontation between law enforcement teams from the two neighbouring states.

Reports further indicate that Andhra Pradesh Police personnel were involved in a heated exchange with the Koraput Sub-Collector and the Pattangi Tehsildar stationed at the checkpost.

The incident heightened tensions in the sensitive border zone, which has witnessed repeated disputes over administrative jurisdiction and development initiatives.

The latest development comes shortly after Odisha Police intercepted a rice-laden truck bearing an Andhra Pradesh registration number near the Neridibalsa checkpost.

Kotia has long remained at the centre of a boundary dispute between Odisha and Andhra Pradesh.

The recent confrontation has once again brought the issue into focus amid concerns over election-related activities and administrative authority in the region.
