Srimandir Darshan to Remain Suspended for Four Hours Tomorrow

Puri: Public darshan at the Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri will remain suspended for four hours tomorrow to facilitate the performance of the sacred Banaka Lagi Niti, one of the temple’s most revered rituals.

According to the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA), devotees will not be allowed to enter the temple for darshan from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM following the completion of the second Bhoga Mandap ritual.

The temporary restriction has been imposed to conduct the Banaka Lagi Niti, also known as Srimukha Sringara, during which the idols of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Devi Subhadra are adorned, and their facial decorations are renewed using traditional natural pigments.

Banaka Lagi is considered one of the most sacred rituals observed at the 12th-century shrine and is performed by designated temple servitors in accordance with centuries-old traditions.

Temple authorities have advised devotees and pilgrims planning a visit to Srimandir tomorrow evening to make necessary arrangements and avoid inconvenience during the suspension period.

Normal darshan is expected to resume after the completion of the ritual and associated temple proceedings.
