Odisha Attracts ₹1.17 Lakh Crore Renewable Energy Investments, Strengthens Green Energy Hub Vision

Bhubaneswar: Odisha has taken a significant step toward becoming a major clean-energy destination, attracting investment proposals worth approximately ₹1.17 lakh crore through 18 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) signed during the Bharat Renewable Energy Summit and Expo 2026.

The proposed projects are expected to add nearly 11.7 GW of renewable energy capacity, reinforcing the state’s ambition to emerge as a leading Green Energy Hub by 2036.

Addressing the Odisha State Plenary at the summit, Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi reaffirmed the Centre’s commitment to supporting Odisha’s renewable energy expansion.

He highlighted the state’s target of achieving 10.96 GW renewable energy capacity by 2030, covering solar, wind, pumped storage, green hydrogen, and other clean-energy technologies.

The proposed investments span a wide range of sectors, including pumped storage projects, solar and wind farms, hybrid renewable projects, battery energy storage systems, green hydrogen, green ammonia, and green data centres.

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi described the overwhelming investor response as a landmark moment for Odisha’s energy sector.

He invited domestic and international investors to partner with the state in transforming Odisha into one of India’s leading power-exporting states and a clean-energy powerhouse for eastern India.

Odisha’s renewable energy potential remains among the strongest in the country.

The state estimates around 49 GW of pumped storage potential, more than 12 GW of floating solar opportunities, over 12 GW of coastal wind energy capacity, and significant prospects in green hydrogen and ammonia production.

The state’s clean-energy push is also being supported by government schemes.

Under PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, Odisha has crossed 1.74 lakh rooftop solar installations, while receiving more than 3.12 lakh applications.

Progress under PM-KUSUM has also been notable, with nearly 15,780 standalone solar pumps installed out of 18,441 sanctioned units.

To support future growth, the Odisha government is implementing a ₹19,348 crore grid expansion programme under the Mukhya Mantri Shakti Vikas Yojana, aimed at strengthening transmission infrastructure and integrating large-scale renewable projects into the state’s power network.

Held under the theme”Invest. Innovate. Inspire,” the Bharat Renewable Energy Summit has provided a platform for states and investors to align their efforts with India’s target of achieving 500 GW of non-fossil fuel energy capacity.

Odisha’s strong investment pipeline and ambitious roadmap have positioned the state as a key player in India’s clean-energy transition.
