Special Intensive Revision of Electoral Rolls in Odisha from July 1
Bhubaneswar, May 14 (UNI) The third phase of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls will commence in Odisha from July 1 as part of a nationwide voter list verification drive initiated by the Election Commission of India (ECI).
The ECI has directed the launch of the third phase of the SIR programme in 16 states and three Union Territories, including Odisha, with the schedule aligned to the ongoing house-listing process for the Census.
According to the Commission, the electoral roll revision will be carried out in phases across the country, excluding Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, and Ladakh.
Separate schedules for these regions will be announced later, after the completion of the second phase of the Census, considering adverse weather conditions.
In Odisha, approximately 38,123 Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will conduct door-to-door verification of voters’ details during the extensive revision exercise.
They will be assisted by 27,723 Booth Level Agents (BLAs) appointed by various political parties across the state.
To maintain transparency and impartiality in the revision process, the Election Commission has urged all political parties to appoint one Booth Level Agent for every polling booth.
The Commission stated that in the first two phases of the programme, electoral rolls of nearly 59 crore voters across 13 states and union Territories were successfully revised.
More than 6.3 lakh Booth Level Officers and 9.2 lakh Booth Level Agents representing different political parties participated in various stages of the earlier phases of the nationwide exercise.
