ISKCON Sparks Row Again with Untimely Rath Yatras Abroad
The International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) has once again drawn criticism for organising Rath Yatra celebrations abroad on dates that do not align with Odisha’s traditional calendar.
The recent events, held on August 15–16 across seven international locations including Europe, England, Canada, and the United States, have raised concerns among devotees and cultural observers.
Critics argue that conducting off‑season Rath Yatras undermines the sanctity and cultural essence of Jagannath traditions, which are deeply rooted in Puri’s calendar.
ISKCON, however, defends the practice, stating that global celebrations help spread awareness of Lord Jagannath’s traditions and foster international devotion.
This controversy adds to a growing list of similar incidents in recent years, with calls intensifying for ISKCON to adhere strictly to the Puri Rath Yatra calendar to preserve authenticity and cultural integrity.
