Hirakud Dam Opens 17 Gates Amid Rising Water Levels
Sambalpur: Authorities at Hirakud Dam opened two additional gates on Wednesday, raising the total number of open gates to 17.
Floodwater is currently being discharged through 11 gates on the left and 6 gates on the right side of the dam.
The reservoir level has reached 620.17 feet, with inflows recorded at 3,77,081 cusecs and outflows at 2,68,883 cusecs.
Officials stated that the release is part of ongoing flood management measures to regulate reservoir levels and safeguard downstream areas amid heavy rainfall in the catchment region.
Residents in low‑lying areas along the Mahanadi river system have been advised to remain alert as authorities continue to monitor inflows and downstream conditions closely.
