Minister Mahaling Explores Gujarat’s Tech Hubs for Odisha’s Chip Mission

Odisha has taken a decisive step toward positioning itself as India’s next semiconductor hub.

Electronics & IT Minister Dr Mukesh Mahaling recently visited Gujarat’s Dholera Special Investment Region and Tata Electronics’ semiconductor fabrication facility to study advanced infrastructure and chip‑making processes.

At Dholera, the minister examined integrated industrial infrastructure, township planning, and plug‑and‑play utilities—models that Odisha could adapt for its own industrial corridors.

His visit to Tata’s semiconductor fab provided crucial insights into the complexities of chip manufacturing, reinforcing the need for a complete ecosystem that includes vendor networks, skilled talent, world‑class infrastructure, and supportive policies.

Dr Mahaling credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi’s leadership, affirming Odisha’s readiness to embrace the semiconductor mission.

Senior officials from Electronics & IT, OPTCL, and OCAC accompanied him, signalling strong institutional backing.

This visit marks Odisha’s shift from traditional industries toward high‑tech manufacturing, underscoring its ambition to emerge as a key player in India’s semiconductor future.
