Odisha Shines in AMRUT 2.0: 345 Projects, 5 Lakh Residents Gain Safe Tap Water

Odisha has emerged as one of the top performers under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) 2.0, driving urban transformation across 89 Urban Local Bodies (ULBs).

With strong political commitment and accountable governance, the state has launched 345 projects worth Rs 4,030.18 crore, of which 107 have already been completed.

A major highlight is the expansion of water security. Seven new Water Treatment Plants with a combined capacity of 43 MLD are now operational, benefiting 2.83 lakh citizens.

Over 2.7 lakh households have received tap connections, ensuring safe drinking water for nearly 5 lakh residents.

Several cities have also introduced 24×7 water supply systems, marking a significant step toward sustainable urban living.

Community participation has been central to the mission. Initiatives like AMRUT Mitra and Women for Tree have empowered women self‑help groups to rejuvenate water bodies and promote environmental stewardship.

Odisha has also aligned with national programmes such as Pey Jal Survekshan and Jal Hi AMRUT, strengthening water reuse and management practices.

On the financing front, the state has prepared 16 bankable projects worth Rs 70.27 crore for smaller ULBs under the Credit Enhancement Initiative.

Additionally, five major projects worth Rs 3,030.61 crore have been submitted under the Urban Challenge Fund for Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Sambalpur, and Berhampur.

Urban Development Minister Dr Krushna Chandra Mahapatra emphasised time‑bound execution and future‑ready infrastructure, framing AMRUT 2.0 as a cornerstone of building a Viksit Odisha.
