Sambalpur Gets Advanced Doppler Radar to Strengthen Weather Forecasting

Sambalpur has been equipped with a state‑of‑the‑art C‑band Doppler weather radar, enhancing Odisha’s ability to forecast extreme weather events.

Covering a radius of nearly 250 km, the radar will provide real‑time data on rainfall, thunderstorms, hailstorms, Kalbaishakhi (Nor’westers), floods, and droughts.

Officials highlighted that the system will play a crucial role in disaster preparedness, offering early warnings to reduce loss of life and property during floods and other calamities.

Farmers, fishermen, and residents of western Odisha are expected to benefit significantly from improved forecasting accuracy.

The radar has already begun transmitting weather information, marking a major step in strengthening Odisha’s meteorological infrastructure.
