Navy Helicopter Deployed for Ganjam Landslide Search; Advanced Technology to Aid Rescue Efforts

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has intensified rescue operations in the landslide-hit Ganjam district by deploying an Indian Navy helicopter equipped with advanced ground-scanning technology to locate missing villagers.

Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari announced that the specialised helicopter will operate over the affected Gidipabali village in the Bhanjanagar region, where several people are feared trapped beneath massive mounds of mud and debris following a devastating landslide.

The helicopter, stationed at Bhubaneswar, is expected to conduct aerial surveys using sophisticated sensors capable of detecting signs beneath layers of earth and rubble.

Officials believe the technology could significantly improve the chances of locating victims concealed under the debris.

In addition to the aerial search, the Odisha government has sought technical assistance from the Indian Railways to strengthen rescue efforts.

Multiple agencies, including ODRAF, Fire Services personnel, and local authorities, remain engaged in round-the-clock operations in the affected area.

Heavy machinery and specialised equipment have been pressed into service as rescue teams continue to clear debris and search for survivors.

Authorities remain hopeful that the deployment of advanced technology will accelerate search efforts and help bring closure to families awaiting news of their missing relatives.

The landslide struck Gidipabali village after heavy rainfall, triggering large-scale devastation and leaving several residents unaccounted for.

Rescue and recovery operations are continuing amid challenging terrain and weather conditions.
