Odisha Leads in AB PM-JAY Card Distribution, ₹6,081 Crore Claims Settled: SHAS CEO Review
Bhubaneswar: Newly appointed Chief Executive Officer of the State Health Assurance Society (SHAS), Dr. Gavali Parag Harshad, conducted a comprehensive review of the implementation of Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY), Gopabandhu Jan Arogya Yojana (GJAY), and PM-RAHAT in Odisha during a high-level meeting at Toshali Bhawan on Saturday.
During the review, the CEO directed senior officials to intensify field-level inspections to detect fraud, improve monitoring, and ensure the speedy resolution of beneficiaries’ grievances.
He also emphasized greater awareness among hospitals regarding the PM-RAHAT scheme so that road accident victims receive timely treatment without delays.
Under the PM-RAHAT scheme, accident victims are eligible for free treatment of up to ₹1.5 lakh for seven days, irrespective of their economic status, provided they are registered within the stipulated timeframe after the accident.
Even hospitals not empanelled under AB PM-JAY can provide treatment through the HEM Lite portal, where applications are automatically approved for eligible cases.
Reviewing the state’s health coverage achievements, officials informed the meeting that around 3.46 crore people have been brought under the AB PM-JAY-GJAY umbrella.
Odisha has distributed 1.79 crore physical co-branded health cards, securing the top position nationally in physical card distribution among beneficiaries.
The state is also facilitating Aadhaar-based e-KYC card generation through Common Service Centres with the support of ASHA workers.
Beneficiaries who do not possess physical cards can still avail treatment using Aadhaar and ration cards at empanelled hospitals.
Currently, 774 private hospitals have been empanelled under the scheme in Odisha, while efforts are underway to onboard more government healthcare institutions.
Odisha has emerged as a leading performer in pre-authorisation processing, claim settlement, and portability claim settlement, enabling beneficiaries to access treatment seamlessly both within and outside the state.
During the last 18 months, from April 2025 to September 2026, a total of 22.13 lakh treatment claims worth ₹6,081.05 crore were processed and settled under the schemes.
Officials said the continued emphasis on transparency, efficiency, and beneficiary outreach is expected to further strengthen Odisha’s healthcare assurance framework and improve access to quality healthcare services across the state.
