Mayurbhanj Police Probe Pigeon With Strange Tag

Residents of Kashipada village in Mayurbhanj district were startled when a pigeon was discovered with a metallic ring inscribed with unusual markings.

The ring, blue in colour and brass‑like in appearance, carried the code “BAN‑2024” and “701831.” Locals speculated that “BAN” might refer to Bangladesh, sparking curiosity and concern.

The bird was handed over to Baisinga police station, where officers, including Betnoti SDPO Minati Biswal, examined the ring.

Authorities are investigating the pigeon’s origin, the meaning of the code, and the purpose of the tagging.

Meanwhile, villagers who gathered at the site await clarity on whether the bird was part of a research project, a communication attempt, or something more unusual.
