Month‑Long Fire‑Safety Drive Targets Malls, Hospitals, Schools
The Odisha government has rolled out a month‑long fire‑safety inspection campaign across the state, scheduled to continue until October 15, 2026.
The initiative comes in the wake of a tragic hotel fire in Delhi that claimed 23 lives, prompting authorities to intensify preventive measures.
Surprise checks will be conducted at shopping malls, hospitals, educational institutions, and other public and commercial buildings.
Special focus will be placed on older structures, where fire‑safety systems are often outdated or non‑functional.
Director General of Fire Services, Sudhanshu Sarangi, emphasised that while newer buildings generally comply with safety norms, older establishments must ensure their systems are active and functional.
The campaign aims to identify gaps, enforce compliance, and strengthen community preparedness.
Violations will result in notices, with cases escalated to relevant development authorities for further action.
