Odisha Excise Commissioner Makes Fire Safety Certificates Mandatory for Liquor Shops
In a decisive move to strengthen public safety, the Odisha Excise Commissioner has directed all Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) “ON” shops across the state to obtain valid Fire Safety Certificates.
The directive comes in the wake of recent fire incidents in commercial hubs, underscoring the risks posed by improper storage of flammable materials.
According to the order, shop owners must install adequate fire safety measures and secure certification from the competent authority.
Excise Deputy Commissioners and Superintendents have been tasked with ensuring strict compliance, with district-wise reports to be submitted to the Directorate.
Officials emphasised that the initiative is aimed at safeguarding consumers, workers, and property, while also reinforcing accountability among liquor retailers.
The move is expected to reduce fire hazards and ensure safer environments in high-traffic commercial areas.
