Odisha Police to Establish Special Units in All Districts to Combat Organised Crime
Bhubaneswar: Odisha Police will set up dedicated special units in every district to tackle organised and sensitive crimes, announced Director General of Police (DGP) Vinaytosh Mishra.
These units will function under the direct supervision of the respective Superintendents of Police, ensuring focused attention on complex investigations.
The initiative comes as regular police stations remain occupied with routine law and order duties, leaving limited scope to pursue inter‑state and organised crime cases.
The new units will prioritise combating cybercrime, curbing illegal drug trade, and running awareness campaigns to make Odisha drug‑free.
Highlighting cybercrime measures, the DGP noted that cyber police stations have been established in all districts this year.
A State Cyber Command Coordination Centre has also been notified and will be operational soon.
Recovery of stolen mobile phones has already improved from 7% to 27%, with a target of 50% by December 2026.
Mishra urged citizens to remain vigilant against online fraud by avoiding suspicious links and unverified financial transactions.
He made these announcements during the passing‑out parade of the fifth batch of 1,027 constable trainees at the Basic Training Institute, Burla, encouraging them to face challenges with courage and maintain a friendly approach toward the public.
