Odisha Transport Minister Reviews Kalinga Ghat Landslide Situation, Orders DPR for Alternative Route
Bhubaneswar: Heavy rains have once again triggered landslides at Kalinga Ghat, disrupting traffic and raising safety concerns for commuters.
In response, Odisha Transport Minister Bibhuti Bhusan Jena visited the site along with senior district officials and forest officers to assess the situation.
During the inspection, the Minister directed departments to prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for an alternative route via the Durgaprasad–Baliapata road, aimed at bypassing the accident‑prone ghat.
The proposed route is expected to enhance public safety, reduce traffic congestion, and ensure reliable connectivity during emergencies or seasonal landslides.
Local stakeholders welcomed the move, emphasising its importance for disaster preparedness and smoother communication in the region.
The initiative is seen as a proactive step toward long‑term infrastructure resilience in Odisha’s hilly terrain.
