New Tiger Spotted in Similipal, Boosts Conservation Hopes
Bhubaneswar, April 26: A new tiger has been spotted in the Similipal Tiger Reserve, raising hopes for wildlife conservation and genetic diversity in Odisha.
According to forest officials, the tiger was captured on trap cameras during routine patrols.
It is believed to have migrated from Chhattisgarh, passing through Sundargarh, Deogarh, and Dhenkanal districts before entering Similipal around December–January.
Wildlife experts hailed the sighting as a positive sign. Former NTCA chief Anup Nayak emphasised that Similipal offers a favourable environment for tigers, and the arrival of a new animal strengthens the population’s genetic pool.
Conservationist Bhanumitra Acharya highlighted the importance of the tiger corridor linking Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, and Odisha.
Authorities are closely monitoring the tiger’s movements and have installed additional camera traps to confirm whether it remains in Similipal or has moved out.
This development underscores Similipal’s role as a critical habitat within India’s tiger corridor and a beacon of hope for biodiversity conservation.
