Odisha Braces for Thunderstorms, IMD Issues Warning Till May 3

Bhubaneswar, April 26: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow warning for thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds across several districts of Odisha, valid until May 3, 2026.

According to the forecast, thunderstorms with wind speeds of 30–40 kmph are expected in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Gajapati, Rayagada, and Koraput.

On April 28–29, hot and humid weather conditions are likely to prevail in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati.

The IMD has also warned of more intense thunderstorms with wind speeds of 40–50 kmph in districts including Kalahandi, Bolangir, Nuapada, Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, and Deogarh.

Authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant, avoid open areas during storms, and follow lightning safety protocols to minimise risks.
