Cyclone Arnab Disrupts Rail Services: ECoR Cancels 9 Trains, Diverts 14 Across Odisha-Andhra Route

Bhubaneswar: Railway services across parts of Odisha and Andhra Pradesh have been severely affected due to Cyclone Arnab, prompting the East Coast Railway (ECoR) to cancel nine trains and divert 14 others as a precautionary measure.

According to railway authorities, heavy rainfall triggered by the cyclone has caused water levels to rise above the danger mark near key bridges in the Ichchapuram-Jhadupudi section under the Visakhapatnam Division.

As a result, train operations in the affected corridor have been suspended until safety conditions improve.

Among the major trains cancelled are the Bhubaneswar-Visakhapatnam Vande Bharat Express, Bhubaneswar-Visakhapatnam Intercity Express, Visakha Express, Falaknuma Express, and the Hirakhand Express services.

Several passenger trains operating between Brahmapur, Visakhapatnam and Bhubaneswar have also been withdrawn.

In addition to cancellations, ECoR has diverted 14 long-distance trains through alternate routes to ensure passenger safety and maintain connectivity.

The diverted services are being routed through various sections including Angul, Sambalpur, Rayagada, Titlagarh, Jharsuguda and Vizianagaram.

Railway officials said restoration works and continuous monitoring are underway.

Services on the affected route will be resumed only after a thorough safety assessment and clearance from engineering teams.

Passengers have been advised to check the National Train Enquiry System (NTES) and official Indian Railways communication channels for the latest updates before commencing their journey.

The disruption comes as Odisha braces for the impact of Cyclone Arnab, with transport and public infrastructure agencies remaining on high alert to minimise risks and ensure public safety.
