Cyclone Arnab Forces Closure of Schools and Anganwadi Centres Across Odisha Amid Heavy Rainfall Warning

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government and district administrations have ordered the closure of schools and Anganwadi centres in several districts as a precautionary measure in view of the threat posed by Cyclone Arnab and the forecast of heavy rainfall.

Several district collectors announced the suspension of classes to ensure the safety of students and staff as adverse weather conditions intensified across parts of the state.

Educational institutions from primary to higher secondary levels have been directed to remain closed in the affected districts, while teachers and administrative personnel have been asked to remain available for emergency duties where required.

The precautionary shutdown covers districts including Puri, Khordha, Jagatsinghpur, Nayagarh, Kalahandi and Nuapada, with local authorities continuously monitoring the cyclone’s movement and its potential impact.

In Khordha district, schools from Shishu Vatika to Class XII have been closed as heavy rainfall warnings remain in effect.

Similar measures have been taken in other vulnerable districts to minimise risks arising from waterlogging, strong winds and transportation disruptions.

Authorities have also stepped up disaster preparedness measures, keeping emergency response teams on standby and advising residents to remain vigilant.

Citizens have been urged to follow official weather updates and avoid unnecessary travel during periods of intense rainfall and strong winds.

The state government is closely coordinating with local administrations and disaster management agencies to ensure timely response and public safety as Cyclone Arnab continues to influence weather conditions across Odisha.
