Amit Shah Assures Full Central Support to Odisha as Cyclone Arnab Rescue Operations Intensify

Bhubaneswar: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday assured all possible assistance from the Central Government to Odisha in the wake of Cyclone Arnab, as rescue, relief, and restoration efforts continue across affected districts on a war footing.

Shah held discussions with Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and reviewed the prevailing situation caused by the cyclone.

He reiterated the Centre’s commitment to supporting the state in mitigating hardships faced by affected communities.

In a statement shared on social media, Amit Shah said that National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams had already been mobilised and were carrying out extensive rescue and relief operations.

He also announced that Inter-Ministerial Central Teams (IMCTs) would soon be deployed to assess the extent of damage and recommend additional assistance.

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi expressed gratitude to the Union Home Minister for the assurance of support.

He informed Shah about the cyclone’s impact on various districts, ongoing restoration work, and relief measures undertaken by the state administration.

The Chief Minister noted that Central assistance would strengthen Odisha’s efforts to safeguard lives, rehabilitate affected families, and accelerate recovery operations.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Cyclone Arnab has weakened into a depression over south Chhattisgarh and adjoining south Odisha after moving northwards.

However, authorities remain vigilant as heavy rainfall and localised flooding continue to affect several areas.

Odisha’s disaster management apparatus remains fully engaged, with emergency teams, district administrations, and frontline workers monitoring vulnerable locations and coordinating relief distribution.

The state government has emphasised rapid restoration of essential services and continued support for affected communities.
