Brahmapur MP Urges Odisha CM to Postpone OPSC OES Mains Exam Amid Cyclone Disruptions
Bhubaneswar: Brahmapur MP Dr Pradeep Kumar Panigrahy has appealed to Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi to postpone the Odisha Public Service Commission (OPSC) Odisha Education Service (OES) Main Examination scheduled for October 31, citing severe disruptions caused by the prevailing cyclone and flood situation across Southern Odisha.
In a letter to the Chief Minister, the parliamentarian highlighted the difficulties faced by aspirants from several districts, including Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, and Kandhamal.
According to him, candidates are struggling to reach examination centres due to widespread waterlogging, transport disruptions, and adverse weather conditions.
The MP pointed out that the Berhampur examination centre has been affected by waterlogging, while bus services in several parts of Southern Odisha have either been suspended or severely disrupted.
He further noted that the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued weather alerts for multiple districts, raising concerns about the safety of candidates undertaking long-distance travel.
Panigrahy also drew attention to power outages and mobile network disruptions in cyclone-affected areas, which have reportedly hampered candidates’ ability to download admit cards and receive important examination-related updates.
In addition, government employees preparing for the examination are facing challenges as many have been deployed for cyclone management and relief operations.
Emphasising the need to ensure equal opportunity and safety for all aspirants, the MP urged the state government and OPSC authorities to reschedule the examination after normalcy is restored.
He stated that postponement would help prevent deserving candidates from being disadvantaged by circumstances beyond their control.
The appeal has gained attention among OES aspirants across the region, many of whom have expressed concerns about reaching examination venues amid the ongoing weather-related disruptions.
