Odisha Floods: Brahmani and Baitarani Rivers Overflow, Affecting Over 5 Lakh People
Odisha is facing a moderate flood crisis as the Brahmani and Baitarani rivers overflow, impacting more than 5.15 lakh residents across northern districts.
Authorities have relocated over 2.37 lakh people to safer areas, with 293 temporary shelters established to house the displaced.
The worst-hit districts include Jajpur and Bhadrak, where breaches in embankments are under repair. Engineers are monitoring vulnerable points to prevent further damage.
Relief and rescue operations are underway, with food and medical supplies distributed to affected families.
While the Subarnarekha and Jalaka rivers remain stable, inflows from Chandeli Dam in Jharkhand are being closely watched.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi visited flood-hit areas to review relief measures and assure support to affected communities.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued alerts for heavy to very heavy rainfall in northern Odisha due to a low-pressure system, raising concerns that the flood situation could worsen in the coming days.
