Odisha Shuts Schools Amid Heavy Rainfall Warning

Bhubaneswar: Authorities in five northern Odisha districts—Kendujhar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Baleshwar, and Mayurbhanj—have ordered the closure of schools, colleges, and Anganwadi centres today following a heavy rainfall warning issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

The IMD has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall over the next three days due to a low‑pressure system over the Bay of Bengal.

District administrations have taken precautionary measures to safeguard students and staff, urging residents to avoid unnecessary travel and remain alert to weather advisories.

In Kendujhar, the weekly public grievance hearing in Joda block has also been postponed until further notice.

Officials emphasised that preparedness measures are underway to mitigate risks from potential flooding and waterlogging.

Citizens are advised to follow IMD bulletins and district advisories closely as the situation develops.
