Dasamula Modaka Offered to Puri Deities Ahead of Rath Yatra

Puri, Odisha: On the auspicious occasion of Ekadashi, the sibling deities of the Jagannath Temple — Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Devi Subhadra — were ceremonially offered Dasamula Modaka, a traditional Ayurvedic herbal medicine.

Following the Snana Purnima ritual bath, the deities are believed to have fallen ill and were kept in the Anasara Ghara (recovery chamber).

During this period, several herbal remedies are administered, with Dasamula Modaka considered the final and most crucial cure.

The medicine, preserved in the temple’s Garuda Graha, was formally offered today by the Raj Vaidya (royal physician).

The deities were adorned in Rakta Bastra attire during the offering, marking the last stage of their treatment before returning to the sanctum.

Tomorrow, on Dwadashi tithi, a grand procession (Raja Prasad Bije) will announce their recovery to Puri’s Gajapati Maharaj.

This will be followed by Ghanalagi and Banakalagi rituals, culminating in the Nabajouban Darshan where the deities appear in youthful form before embarking on the annual Rath Yatra to Gundicha Temple.
