Low-Pressure Area Shifts to Jharkhand, Odisha Braces for Rainfall

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has reported that the low-pressure area, which was earlier positioned over Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining Jharkhand/north Odisha, has now moved to Jharkhand and its surrounding regions as of 8:30 AM on Tuesday.

The associated cyclonic circulation extends up to 5.8 km above mean sea level and tilts southward with height.

IMD forecasts that the system will continue to move west-northwestwards across Jharkhand within the next 24 hours.

Under its influence, Odisha is expected to witness light to moderate rain or thundershowers at many places.

Heavy rainfall warnings remain in effect for several districts, with localised flooding risks in low-lying areas.

Meanwhile, parts of Odisha have already recorded significant rainfall, with Debagada registering 162.2 mm.

Other updates from across the state include a crocodile rescue in Balimela-Chitrakonda, a tragic train fall in which a youth lost his life, and a snakebite incident in Sundargada.

Authorities have urged residents to remain alert, especially in vulnerable districts, as the weather system continues its westward movement.
