174 Schools Shut in Odisha as Floods Worsen
Heavy rainfall and subsequent flooding have forced the closure of 174 schools across Bhadrak and Jajpur districts in Odisha.
The Bhadrak administration ordered the shutdown of 81 schools in Bhadrak, Tihidi, and Chandbali blocks, along with all Anganwadi Centres, citing safety concerns.
Similarly, Jajpur district authorities closed 93 schools across five blocks — Binjharpur, Bari, Rasulpur, Dasarathpur, and Dharmasala.
District Collectors emphasised that the closures are precautionary, prioritising the safety of children amid waterlogging and restoration work.
Health preparedness measures have also been taken, with flood‑affected areas stocking Anti‑Snake Venom, bleaching powder, Halazone tablets, and ORS to mitigate risks.
