Eighth-Grade Student Found Dead in Sundaragada Hostel
Sundaragada district witnessed a tragic incident on Monday when a 13-year-old student was found hanging inside his hostel room at an Ashram School in Bisra block.
The deceased, identified as Abhishek Minj of Kemang village in Nuagaon block, was studying in Class VIII and residing at a tribal welfare-run hostel.
Reports suggest Abhishek had developed a close bond with a fellow student, which drew teacher attention and led to the girl’s transfer certificate being issued.
Although his father later requested reinstatement, sources indicate the boy’s mental health had deteriorated since the episode.
On Monday, hostel authorities discovered Abhishek’s body and immediately informed the police.
SI Prasanna Kumar Jena and his team reached the spot, conducted preliminary investigations, and sent the body for post-mortem in the presence of a magistrate.
The remains were later handed over to the family.
The incident has sparked concern over student mental health and institutional responsibility in tribal welfare schools.
