Heavy Rainfall Alert: IMD Issues Orange Warning for Six Odisha Districts

Bhubaneswar, Aug 25: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange warning for six districts of Odisha — Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Subarnapur, and Boudh — forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall today.

An additional yellow warning has been sounded for eleven districts, including Anugul, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Koraput, and Malkangiri, where heavy showers are likely.

Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds reaching 30–40 kmph may occur in isolated pockets.

Light to moderate rainfall or thundershowers are expected across most districts.

According to IMD, the weather activity is being triggered by a low‑pressure area over Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, and north Odisha, with an associated cyclonic circulation extending up to 7.6 km above mean sea level.

The system is likely to move northwestwards across Jharkhand and north Odisha within the next 24 hours.

Authorities have advised residents in the affected districts to remain cautious against waterlogging, flash floods, and strong winds.
