All 16 Missing Fishermen Found Safe Near Kakdwip

Sixteen fishermen, including three brothers from Odisha’s Baleshwar district, who had gone missing at sea for nearly a week, have been found safe near Kakdwip in West Bengal.

The group had set sail from Shankarpur beach on July 2 aboard the trawler Maa Kali for a deep‑sea Hilsa fishing expedition.

After initial contact with their families and the trawler owner, communication was lost, sparking widespread concern.

Relief came when the Shankarpur Trawler Association confirmed the vessel was located about two kilometres off Kakdwip.

Another trawler has been dispatched to bring them back safely.

Among the rescued are three Odia brothers—Rabindra Majhi, Jayaram Majhi, and Jagannath Majhi—from Bhograi in Baleshwar, while the remaining 12 fishermen hail from West Bengal.

Families expressed immense relief after days of anxiety.
