Conservation and Inventory Work Begins at Srimandir During Gundicha Yatra

Puri: The Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) has initiated major conservation and restoration work inside the 12th-century Srimandir while the deities are away at Gundicha Temple for the annual Rath Yatra.

The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), IIT Madras, and the Central Building Research Institute (CBRI) are supervising the structural strengthening of the Garbhagriha, Nata Mandap, and Bhog Mandap.

Modernisation efforts include installing an air-conditioning system in the Nata Mandap to improve conditions for devotees.

This rare window is also being used to digitally document and inventory the temple’s priceless ornaments.

Using 3D scanning technology, ornaments such as Rahu Rekha, Jhoba, Suna Chita, and Rupa Rasik Sua Thantia are being catalogued for preservation.

Meanwhile, preparations are complete for the Adapa Bije Niti at Gundicha Temple.

Lakhs of devotees have gathered for the Adapa Pahandi ritual, seeking the blessings of Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra, and Devi Subhadra.

Authorities have urged devotees to cooperate with guidelines to ensure smooth darshan during the festivities.
