Ama Bus Theft Case: Nayapalli Police Arrest Five Women in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: Nayapalli police have arrested five women belonging to a Banjara gang from Maharashtra for allegedly stealing mobile phones and valuables from passengers on the city’s Ama Bus service.

Acting on a tip‑off, police intercepted the women near Jaydev Vihar bus stop while they were attempting to sell stolen phones.

Investigations revealed that the gang operated by creating deliberate crowds inside buses and marketplaces, distracting commuters before swiftly picking valuables from vanity bags and pockets.

Police recovered 10 stolen mobile phones and two expensive bags during the arrest.

Authorities said the stolen items were being resold through middlemen in other states.

The arrests mark a significant breakthrough in curbing organised theft targeting public transport passengers in Bhubaneswar.
