Odisha Tourism Vision 2036/47: District Rankings to Drive Growth
The Odisha government has unveiled its ambitious Tourism Vision 2036/47, positioning tourism as a key driver of local economic growth.
In a virtual orientation chaired by Chief Secretary Anu Garg, the Local Tourism Promotion Council (LTPC) was tasked with aligning grassroots initiatives with Viksit Odisha-2036 and Viksit Bharat-2047.
Officials emphasised the need to promote new destinations, heritage sites, and natural reserves while ensuring community participation.
The Odisha Homestay Establishment Scheme-2025 and updated eco-tourism policies were introduced to boost rural employment, youth hospitality training, and sanitation standards.
A district tourism ranking system will encourage healthy competition, prioritising infrastructure and visitor experience.
Each district must identify and upgrade 5–10 smaller tourist sites to benefit rural economies, MSMEs, and women’s self-help groups.
Additionally, sub-collectors will identify land parcels for a tourism land bank to attract private investment in hospitality.
Adventure tourism, ethnic lifestyle experiences, tour services, and wayside amenities are among the focus areas for sectoral growth.
With this roadmap, Odisha aims to transform tourism into a cornerstone of sustainable development, ensuring both economic upliftment and cultural preservation.
