Bhadrak: Son Axes Mother to Death Amid Raja Festival

A shocking incident has rocked Jirina Gudia Sahi village in Bhadrak district, where a 25‑year‑old man allegedly killed his mother with an axe on the first day of the Raja festival.

The accused, Pritam Sahu, attacked his mother, Mamata Sahu, inside their home while traditional pithas were being prepared.

The crime was discovered when his father returned from the market and found her lifeless body.

According to locals, Pritam had been suffering from mental health issues for the past seven to eight months, displaying erratic behaviour and refusing food.

Despite receiving treatment in Bhadrak and Cuttack, his condition showed little improvement.

Just a week earlier, he had reassured his parents of his recovery, prompting them to return home from his maternal grandfather’s house.

The community has described the act as “unthinkable,” with many attributing it to his unstable mental condition.

Police from Banta station swiftly arrested Pritam and seized the blood‑stained axe.

Investigations are underway to determine whether family disputes or other factors contributed to the tragedy.
